First Look: New 2027 KX450F(X) and 250F(x) are here
While we have all been waiting to put eyes on the new “Kawasaki Smoker”, there was also some talk and rumors that we might see an all-new KX450F for 2027. The KX327 two-stroke is here and it’s real. The 2027 KX450F and 250F are both new but also carry over a lot from the 2026 model. The laundry list is fairly deep, although not what some would consider “all-new,” perhaps more “heavily revised”. As you can see, they have brought back the “F” on the back side of the KX450 and 250 to set it apart from the two-stroke models in the line. When it comes to pure moto, Kawasaki actually produces more two-strokes than four-strokes, 4 to 2, to be exact. Yet if you also count the off-road versions of the 450FX and 250FX, it’s a tie.
The overall look of the KX450F is very similar to the last revised 2024-2026 model but if you look closely, bodywork has been revised, as has the front fender, front brake routing, and front number plate.
Major Changes for 2027:
● NEW More Aggressive Power Feel at Mid-High RPM
● NEW Aluminum Perimeter Frame With Longer Wheelbase
● NEW Optimized Race-Ready Suspension Settings
● NEW Front and Rear Brembo Brake Components
● NEW Athletic Styling With Slim Ergonomic Bodywork
● NEW Enhanced Smartphone Connectivity via GPS and RIDEOLOGY THE APP KX™2)
● NEW Updated Launch Control Mode for Holeshot Advantage
● NEW Revised Intake & Exhaust Systems and Optimized FI Settings for Improved Engine Performance
ENGINE:
Although easy to ride, the stock KX450 from 2024-2026 has been considered tame by some. For 2027, Kawasaki has addressed the concerns by making changes to the exhaust, the intake, and fuel injection settings to create what they are calling a more aggressive character, with an improved bottom-end response while improving the mid high-end range. In standard terms, a little more everywhere that builds the power a little faster.
The exhaust is all new and you can clearly see the muffler is longer than previous (24-26) and the header appears to be longer. All of this was to probably increase performance while still meeting sound requirements.
CHASSIS:
The frame has also been revised, as well as the swingarm, and it sports a longer wheelbase. Details on what specifically was altered was not mentioned in our release. But we deduce these changes have been in the works for a spell and able to be put into production for 2027. The pickup points appear to be the same as well as the overall look of the frame. Yet if you look close at the cast side spars, you can see some subtle changes, includig the engine hanger brackets. Note there is only one set of mounting spots, unlike the 2024-2026 450 sytle. Also notice the swingarm has a new shape and or manufacturing process.
Here are some words direct from Kawasaki:
“New for 2027, the KX450F features a redesigned aluminum perimeter frame, paired with a revised swingarm, and a longer wheelbase. These updates improve rear-wheel traction and give riders better control when accelerating out of corners and through rough sections. The longer wheelbase also adds stability at speed, helping the bike stay composed in demanding conditions.
Also new for 2027, updated suspension settings at the front improve shock absorption and overall feel, especially on rough or technical terrain. At the rear, the New Uni-Trak® suspension system has been revised to further enhance traction and control, giving the bike a more balanced and connected feel across a variety of track conditions.
Together, these updates create a chassis and suspension package that feels more stable under power, more controlled through challenging sections, and better suited for aggressive riding.”
NEW ERGONOMICS:
Part of the 2027 facelift also includes some new bodywork that is said to be slimmer with and improved “athletic look.” It appears none of the 2024-2026 bodywork will to 2027. Even the mounting points on the shrouds to the tank have been revised. The seat has also been revised for the feel. They did not mention of any changes to the seat height, footpegs, or rider triangle. The footpegs and the handlebar positions are still adjustable.
NEW BRAKES FRONT AND REAR:
“Also new for 2027, the KX450F is equipped with a premium Brembo braking system front and rear. A Brembo front caliper and master cylinder, paired with a steel-braided brake line, deliver stronger and more consistent braking feel. At the rear, new Brembo components improve control when entering and exiting corners.”
The front brake routing has also been revised and the brake line is now routed behind the front number plate.
NEW INSTRUMENTS & TECHNOLOGY
“The 2027 KX450F is equipped with advanced rider support technology designed to give racers more control and confidence in a wide range of conditions. For 2027, Kawasaki has made these systems more accessible and easier to adjust, allowing riders to fine-tune performance directly from the handlebar or through their smartphone.
New for 2027, riders can quickly switch between engine maps using the handlebar-mounted Power Mode (M) button. Two selectable modes can be customized through RIDEOLOGY THE APP KX™2, giving riders the ability to tailor engine character to their preference or track conditions.
Also new for 2027, Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC) offers increased adjustability with two selectable modes plus the option to turn the system off. Riders can switch between settings using the handlebar-mounted Traction (T) button, while the level of intervention for each mode can be adjusted through the app to better match riding style and surface conditions.
Launch Control Mode has also been updated for 2027 to further improve starts. Activated using the handlebar controls, the system helps maximize traction on low-grip surfaces. A new rev-limit control function allows riders to focus on timing the gate and managing the clutch without needing precise throttle control. Through RIDEOLOGY THE APP KX™2, riders can choose between three levels of launch control intervention and adjust or disable the rev limit function.”
KX450FX OFF-ROAD
Like the motocross version, the off-road model also received the same refinements. But also notice the larger fuel tank on the X, this is a first. Off-road racing is a big part of Kawasaki and it shows.

Final 2027 KX450F(X) Thoughts
Believe it or not, we are often a fan of a revision of an already really good motorcycle opposed to a completely new motorcycle. The KX450 is a solid machine by all accounts and the 2027 lineup with its host of improvements all point to the right direction. We can’t wait to toss a leg over the new/revised 2027 KX450F and FX models.
