What it is

  • Fox's new high-end lightweight MX gear line.

Fox’s FLEXAIR Jersey is the lightest motocross jersey the company has ever created. Made form a 4% Lycra blend, the FLEXAIR Jersey stretches for rider comfort. With knit blend construction, TruDri fabric is claimed to be softer and more comfortable against the skin. It does this by keeping the rider’s body temperature balanced under extreme race conditions with a double-layer construction that transports moisture from the inside to the surface where it disperses for rapid evaporation. The size Large has a claimed weight of only 6 ounces which is about 25% lighter than most jerseys. Available in seven colorways and in sizes S-XXL the jersey retails for $74.95-$84.95

How it works

  • Light airy feel.
  • Great moisture absorption and wicking.
  • Very stretchy and comfortable on the skin.

I’ve always said a jersey is a jersey is a jersey. Designers have been looking for ways to make this incorrect. And they have. With the rush of technical fabrics the landscape has changed. Though motocross jerseys may look the same, the materials are making a difference. The Fox FLEXAIR is a step forward for sure. It is lighter, more comfortable and wicks moisture better than any other jersey I have worn. It is noticeable. Almost as much as the price when looking at other brands and doing comparisons. It feels like you are wearing nothing in weight but when it starts getting sweaty with wind flow you’ll get some noticeable cooling. I can out sweat the effectiveness of the wicking but that happens with any fabric—yet the FLEXAIR will dry faster in use than most other technical fabrics I have tried. The material is not a mesh in the areas you typically get roosted so sand and dirt do not pass through which is a big plus for comfort yet air seems to flow through and cool as if the jersey were mesh. The fit is tighter but with the stretching properties of the Lycra in the jersey it isn't an issue.

It’s tear resistance and durability has been top flight with no stitching issues whatsoever. Quoted abrasion resistance increases are compared to other fabrics more on a durability standard than an abrasion on the ground in a crash, but we'd believe that this jersey would be as good as any in a crash, for what a jersey's protection is worth.

The collar is comfortable with plenty of stretch just like the whole of the jersey. Even the cuffs on the wrist, minimalist at best do a good job of keeping dirt out, the sleeves in place without constricting the wrist or arm. We have no reason to dispute any of the weight claims of Fox and in fact it feels lighter than they claim when you are wearing it. We didn’t put it on a postal scale to check, after all I drink that much weight in water between motos anyways. In washing the jersey has been on par with any other technical fabric on cleaning, the white portions do struggle with red or brown dirt, like they all do.

Of note was that there are many technical fabrics that have some sort of anti-smell or anti-microbial treatments. Some seem to work and other plain make your clothes smell more. This jersey seemed to have none of that treatment but could also carry a smell if not washed thoroughly.  Like all Fox gear the sizing is a little smaller than most so I opt for the XL in jersey when I run between an L and XL for street clothes.

Yes you pay for it. But the designs are always fresh and leading edge at the track, you’ll be on point till the next batch of gear comes out for sure. But in reality the performance and durability of the fabric are what you are really paying for and on that the price matches the performance. And there are few jerseys I’d go as far as to say that.

Just throwing my two cents in because I’m one of the Enduro racing crowd from the South…and we are nearly our own market with our own specific requirements because of heat/humidity combined. If you live on the East Coast, or in the South, a jersey is not a jersey is not a jersey. Breathability (mesh), moisture wicking (sweat), and because of the nature of those two factors, durability comes into play. While I’m still (always been) a fan of Fox and Shift, Klim and Moose are the only ones that have addressed those factors altogether. Moto is moto…but Enduro is insanely more brutal due to most racers not being AA/A riders and the slower you are, the longer the race with some being 4+ hours long. Heat is a giant factor, weight and flexibility in jerseys…not so much. Love this site, long time reader and now web follower. Keep it up.
