The King Goes Green

MCThat is right, MC, Showtime, The King of SX, Jeremy McGrath has gone Green

dirt-111914-Mcgraht1Why is it such a big deal? Not sure! Yes he is still the King of SX but this guy has been retried from active racing for years. Yes he is still a hero and can probably spank 99% of motocrossers on earth, and most are half his age. Nevertheless, is it such a big deal for MC to change brands even though he no longer races the circuit? Maybe, if you are Monster and Kawasaki, and the best rider in the world has left the States to go ride for the Kawasaki Claw over in Europe, the answer is maybe. Odds are Honda has scaled back and Kawasaki offered him more money to help out and do testing for the race team – or MC was already a Monster guy so the transition to Green is not so strange. And, some of you might remember McGrath was a Team Green rider before he landed his first big ride aboard the Pro Circuit Peak team in 1991. Not matter how you slice it, the chat boards are blowing up over the MC brand change to Kawasaki. According to the Monster Energy Kawasaki Team press release, MC’s official title is Brand Ambassador. He is also quoted as “Along with his promotional duties, McGrath will also serve as a mentor to the Kawasaki Team Green and professional factory supported riders, passing along advice from his many years at the top of the sport,” via Kawasaki.

“I’m excited because I really like be involved in this sport. I love riding and I want to work with the new riders transitioning into Supercross,” McGrath told DBT. “I may have blown it by running my number 2 on my first day out, it looks a lot like Villapoto. I should have run my number 125 from back when I was on Team Green and won my first 125 Supercross, but I’m not too sure how many people remember that. I’ve got a good history with Kawasaki and a lot of my friends work there. this is going to be fun.”

The bottom line, it is great to see Jeremy McGrath still linked so tight with the sport that had earned him millions and a million fans. Great to see him still out there riding, and he is one of the best overall ambassadors to the sport of motocross and supercross.

thats funny he mentioned his old number..it was because of his results that first year I became a fan of MC. It was the reason I ran 125 as my number for the last 20 plus years…I just changed it up this year…lol…wasn’t working for me….
