Kawasaki celebrates the 50th anniversary of the KX
Seems like just yesterday Brad Lackey was racing a prototype KX to win an AMA title in 1972. (That is if you are over 55 years old, LOL) Two years later Kawasaki launched their first production KX motocross bike in 1974. From there, the championships piled up as did some of the greatest names in the sport racing Team Green, including Jeff Ward, Mike LaRocco, Jimmy Weinert, Mike Kiedrowski, Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, Eli Tomac and current Kawasaki factory riders Jason Anderson and Adam Cianciarulo. Not to even mention the slew of off-road ledgends that raced the KX incluidng Danny Hamel, Larry Roeseler and Ty Davis to name just a few.
Kawasaki tossed a party during the SuperMotocross finals at the LA Coliseum, some of the heroes that rode Green showed up to celebrate the and share stories. They showed off not only a 1974 KX250 but some of the championship bikes throughout the years. Believe it or not, riders like Mike LaRocco, Jeff Emig and Jeff Matasivich all praised the all-mighty 1993 KX500 race bikes as one of their all-time favorite bikes to race back in the day.
Kawasaki also celebrated the night showing off the 2024 KX450 along with the 2024 “Retro” KX450, in celebration of their 50th anniversary.
