DBT: Dirt of the Week

Monter Energy SX After 4

One day you’re a hero, the next second you’re a bigger hero. One week you’re getting black flagged and the next you’re on the podium. Racing supercross is one fickle beast. It has no favorites and can rip millions of dollars from the pocket of a given racer in a split second. After four rounds of the series Justin Brayton, Dean Wilson, Weston Peik and Mike Alessi did no race in Oakland. White most will return, Wilson will not with a bad knee injury. KTM’s Ken Roczen and former point leader nearly tossed his season into the can after coming up short after passing Chad Reed. He smacked his coconut pretty hard and it left a mark, but the hero of he week remounted to finish the race. K-Roc also lucked out when a few main event guys were docked for jumping with the red lights flashing for a downed rider (Roczen to be exact) and salvaged a few more valuable championship points. Dungey now leads the point chase for the tittle with Roczen trailing by four. If you are not attending A3 in CA, be sure to watch the broadcast on the tube.

Superbowl of Motocross (Suprercross founder?) Mike Goodwin will stay in Jail

Photo: Huffington Post
May 1967 FILE PHOTOWe came across this story about the murder conviction of Micky Thompson at the Huffington Post. Mike Goodwin, now 69 was convicted of being involved in the murder of Micky Thompson years ago. Goodwin to many helped created the sport of supercross by promoting the first modern stadium motorcross race called the Superbowl of Motocross way back in 1972 at the LA Coliseum. He and Thompson were business partners but had a falling out and later Thompson and his wife were gunned down in front of their house. For years the case went cold until they found enough evidence to try and convict Goodwin, who to this day claims to be innocent. Here is the link to the latest news on Goodwin’s appeal attempt

King of the Motos 2015

DBT’s own Jimmy Lewis has been out in the California desert plotting a course for the 2015 King of the Motos event and plans to reek havoc and instill some terror into the competitors this year. What Lewis thinks of as fun is torture to the everyman rider, trust me, I have been riding with the guy for decades. This year’s race will take place on Sunday February 1 at 8am. The idea is a few gaggles will start and only a select few will finish. You can catch live coverage of the event by clicking on this link or by going to http://ultra4racing.com. Or you can see the race in person if you live near Southern California by heading out to Lucerne Valley.

Must Read: Mike Healey Story

Photo: Moto Magazine
It is not very often I am captivated by something I read on the internet. Yes we hear about a black flag at a supercross or heart felt stories but what about our heros that fall from glory. It happens more than we think and professional athletes that have spent years beating the heck out of their body fall victim much too often. This story posted at Moto Magazine is a must read for anyone and everyone. It is a touching story on the life and times of former Mini Cycle champion, factory rider and World Champion runner-up Mike Healey. Here is a link to the story: CLICK HERE

J Law out in Florida riding two-wheelers

Some say waisted talent, others just say a punk kid that was given a chance and he tossed it away because he was a punk kid. Not so much a kid anymore, but he would not be racing a B series if he was not having some fun riding a motorcycle. Doubtful he will ever get back to top 10 national level but stranger things have happened. Check out the video that was posted on YouTube. Jason Lawrence now looks like a slightly older version of the punk trouble maker he once was.

More Mad Skills by Colton Haaker

If Haaker could land these tricks 9 out of 10 times he could take his show on the road. Just watching this video lets most of us realize how feeble of a rider most of us really are. And he is just out play riding. Geeeeeee.
