Honda’s True Adventure Prototype
Short on real information and big on hype Honda used the EICMA show to launch a bomb to the adventure market. Though actual information was non-existent we gathered a few details from scraping together what we could. This bike is a long ways from being a production unit, hence the prototype in the title. It is visually missing a shift lever indicating the use of a DCT transmission which is popular on some scooter and ATV models but this is only speculation. It is understood that Honda is lacking a bike in the adventure market which is growing in the US, yet to the rest of the world this is a comfortable street bike that looks like it could go off-road. Displacement, a mystery. With the growing trend of mega horsepower bikes and Honda’s recent introduction of bikes for everybody, we’d guess a 700-800cc range targeting ease of use, comfort and a more friendly price point. Exactly where and when will this “True Adventure” show up? That is one hell of a mystery.
(Honda PR) The second prototype on display is the True Adventure Prototype. Inspired by both Honda’s fantastic heritage in adventure motorcycling and its recent Dakar program, the True Adventure Prototype captures the product direction as Honda seeks to expand its presence in the Adventure segment. This prototype has been developed to deliver outstanding off-road capability, and could provide the basis of a true round-the-world motorcycle. It’s flanked by the current Team HRC CRF450 Rally and, paying respect to Honda’s competition legacy, the 1989 Paris-Dakar-winning NXR Africa Twin ridden by Gilles Lalay.
“The Man” is staying and your good looking 2015 KTM is looking dated!
Roger DeCoster has signed to stay managing KTM’s Motocross and Supercross race teams till 2016 saying that he us still having fun at work. And he’ll have an all new bike to work with very soon as KTM released a prototype 2016 to the eyes at the EICMA show. The bike, a 350 said to be Tony Carolli’s new ride, has an all new motor and frame. The bikes have been tested with all sorts of suspension and this one is pictured with conventional spring suspension though the shock spring had been blacked out, so it will be interesting to see what shows up in the future since the acceptance of air suspension has been less than positive by most accounts. Yet suspension manufacturers are pushing forward on development and when it works most will agree it works better. So where is the claimed 5 kg (12 lb.) weight loss? We’d guess in the springs. SWM Motorcycles are Alive
(EICMA Media Release} What a great emotion to enter SWM’s stand…anyone who has been a rider or still is can’t remain insensitive looking at red-white tanks and amaranth frames of the old one-cylinder bikes, staged up to celebrate the re-birth of the Lombard company. Behind the return of Speedy Working Motors, there are the incredible experience of Ampelio Macchi and the entrepreneurial spirit of Shineray Group, a partnership that brought to a rich and articulate catalogue: five engine sizes, among which you can find 300 cc and 650 cc, that equip four different types of off-road and street motorcycles. Enduro (RS 300 R and RS 500 R), Supermotard (SM 450 R), Touring (Superdual 650) and Old Fashion (Gran Milano 440, Gran Turismo 440, Silver Vase 400). Here is more info on the bikes we spotted over at Enduro21
The engines, developed internally as the cycling, electronics and design, are injection Euro3 twin-shafts, air-cooled for the Old-Fashion version.
This is the starting basis for a great project, which foresees also the introduction of 125 cc engines, for young riders, and other for motocross and enduro specifically developed propellers.
Help Save some trails
Stewards of the Sequoia recently discovered a Pacific Crest Trail Association proposal which seeks to create a one mile wide Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) corridor likely restricting all forms of recreation and land management in three National Forests. They also seek to limit trails and roads crossing the PCT to no closer than 5 miles apart, as well as restrict horseback and hiking events.

2015 Honda HRC Team MXGP: Guess who is the Manager
Now in his sixth season on the Honda CRF, Evgeny Bobryshev stays with Team HRC for the 2015 season and is joined by Honda returnee Gautier Paulin. The Frenchman competed in red in the early stages of his career in Europe and his move back to the Honda CRF is one of the sport’s highest-profile and eagerly anticipated switches for next year.
Honda and HRC also welcome back a second Frenchman to the team ahead of next season: long-time Honda rider and multiple World and US Champion Jean-Michel Bayle, who assumes the newly created position of Sporting Manager at Team HRC.
The 2015 season will be the second since the HRC name returned to the championship. This formative year already yielded holeshots, podiums and victories, and for 2015 Team HRC will be stronger than ever as, with the Honda CRF450RW in the hands of Bobryshev and Paulin, they continue a determined drive to reclaim their spot at the top of the world.

CONGRATS ON TRAIL VICTORY 2014!
Dear Trail Voter,
WOW! – YOU did it!!! Great job and many thanks to all of you who helped support TPAC’s effort to elect a pro-trail majority to the U.S Senate and retain and grow our majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Our victory tonight means that pro-access and supporter of multiple-use of public lands, Mitch McConnell, will replace Harry Reid as the Senate Majority Leader. McConnell has been a longtime opponent of the EPA’s regulatory agenda. TPAC expects McConnell will use a number of avenues to rein in the EPA and other federal regulatory agencies.
TPAC believes that Senator James Inhofe, an outspoken critic of the environmental movement’s regulatory agenda, will replace Barbara Boxer as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. Trail users could expect to see Inhofe hold federal regulators accountable via rigorous oversight hearings and reform-oriented legislation.
Senator Lisa Murkowski, a strong supporter of access to federal lands, will replace Mary Landrieu as Chairman of the Senate Energy Committee. Murkowski would most likely work to enhance America’s energy production and develop a common sense energy policy. She too would work to support regulatory reform of federal agencies.
TPAC nationalized this election to empower trail voters in states where there are no senate races so they can help shape the political landscape in Washington D.C. We also worked hard to get local OHV enthusiasts engaged with our endorsed candidates.
Again, congratulations to all of you on a job well done.

Colorado Performance Concept Enables Adventure
Ricky Carmichael helps develop package to demonstrate cargo capability, flexibility
LAS VEGAS – Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael has the perfect go-anywhere transporter in the all-new Chevrolet Colorado for his motorcycle, mountain bike and the gear that goes with them.
Carmichael teamed with Chevrolet to develop the Colorado Performance concept to illustrate the lifestyle-supporting capability of Chevy’s new midsize pickup truck. It debuts this week at the SEMA Show, the world’s largest trade show of automotive performance and personalization.
“Where I take my bikes, a full-size truck isn’t always the best solution, so a maneuverable midsize truck like the Colorado is just the ticket,” said Carmichael. “Besides a cargo bed that’s not only large enough to haul a motocross bike and a mountain bike, the Colorado has the power to confidently take them where the pavement ends.”
Carmichael consulted with Chevrolet on the unique concept equipment to facilitate the bikes’ mounting in the Colorado crew cab’s 6’ 2” cargo bed, which allows hauling of items up to eight feet long with the tailgate down. A concept tailgate extender helps secure the bikes, while the Colorado’s standard CornerStep rear bumper makes it easier to step up and reach into the bed to tighten hold-down straps or retrieve other gear.
The concept mounting features on Carmichael’s Colorado were developed with the same eye on integrated functionality that’s offered in production accessories available today for Colorado customers – including the patent-pending GearOn™ system. It’s designed to hold larger items such as bikes, boards and kayaks above the bed, leaving room for smaller gear such as tents and sleeping bags in the bed. It can even accommodate 4 x 8-foot sheets of plywood above the wheelhouses.
Customers can have the accessories installed when they purchase their new truck, so they are ready at the time of vehicle delivery. In fact, they can even roll their cost, including any installation charges, into the monthly payments for the Colorado, and carry a warranty backed by General Motors.
With his motorcycle and mountain bike safely mounted, Carmichael and Chevrolet designers turned their attention to the Colorado’s exterior and interior to give it a one-of-a-kind appearance reflecting the hall-of-fame racer’s competitive spirit.
The truck was given a unique matte gray exterior color accented with high-gloss silver and yellow accents – and a graphic of Carmichael’s signature. The production 17-inch Z71 aluminum wheels were accented with yellow highlights and wrapped in Goodyear Duratec off-road tires. A concept sport bar was also added to the bed.
Yellow accents were added to the interior, along with Carmichael’s racing number 4 embroidered into the front seat headrests. Like the production Colorado, Carmichael’s concept version is well connected via Chevy MyLink with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. There’s also a standard rearview camera system that’s helpful when backing up with tall cargo, such as a motorcycle.
And when it comes to the power Carmichael appreciates, the Colorado delivers the segment’s most powerful and efficient engine: an available 3.6L V-6 rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque – and 26 mpg on the highway (2WD models), according to EPA estimates. The concept vehicle features a concept performance exhaust system.
That power supports segment-leading capabilities, too, including a 7,000-pound maximum trailering capacity with available heavy-duty trailering package, and a maximum payload capacity of 1,590 pounds.
“The Colorado does everything I want in a pickup truck,” said Carmichael. “It simply does it in a smaller package that fits the lifestyle of a lot of people like me.”
