What it is

  • Socket to loosen or tighten your steering stem nut.
  • Available in 1/4" or 3/8" drive applications.

Velocity Components is a newer company in the MX tech world, started in 2023. They produce a variety of tools and parts for dirt bikes, and one of their latest offerings is a Steering Stem Spanner Nut Socket. Using either a ¼” or ⅜” drive ratchet, the socket can be affixed to a ratchet or torque wrench for removal and installation of your steering stem spanner nut. It is CNC machined and hard chrome plated for a durable fit and finish. The socket retails for $49.99 and is currently available for Kawasaki and Yamaha models.

How it works

  • Removes the guesswork out of tightening your steering stem spanner nut.
  • Clean removal and install of the nut.

We’ve all been there before. You incrementally tighten your steering stem spanner nut in hopes that you get it to your liking, only to put the whole front end back together and realize it’s a tad too loose or too tight, thus having to strip everything back down again to make a change.

With Velocity’s socket, you can take all of the guesswork out of it. Being a socket that fits a ¼” or ⅜” drive ratchet, you can fix it to a torque wrench when tightening the steering stem spanner nut, or to a ratchet when loosening the nut, leaving the channel locks and pliers or hammer and punch in the toolbox where they should be. Tightening the steering stem spanner nut to your desired torque setting makes for a consistent feel and simple maintenance. There’s no more guessing or going by feel, but rather a hard number on a torque wrench. If you’re not the best mechanic, this will make you feel like a pro nailing the proper spec every time. And if you are a great mechanic who can easily go by feel, this just cuts down some of the time and thought behind the process. Now, tearing apart the front end to grease your steering stem bearings isn’t as big of a hassle!
