Excel is a manufacturer well known for their extremely high quality rims and wheel components. The new Excel A60 rims are structurally 15% stronger than current Excel Takasago Signature Series Rims and are designed and engineered for top professionals and aggressive riders. Made in Japan out of series 7000 aluminum, these rims are made for harsh terrain and abusive riding. This rim is also designed with a new v-curve profile that helps reduce mud buildup. The new A60 rim comes in black and sports a metallic silver pinstripe along the edge of the rim.  The rims are available in several sizes; 21 x 1.60, 19 x 1.85, 19 x 2.15, 18 x 2.15 and can be laced to stock and certain aftermarket hubs.

How it works

  • Increased wheel strength and durability
  • A60 design is stronger yet weighs the same or less than previous Excel rims
  • New V-curve profile helps reduce mud build up and keeps bike lighter
  • Can be laced to stock hubs, Excel Pro Series Hubs and certain aftermarket hubs
  • Great looking with high quality factory style

Depending on your riding style and the type of riding/racing you do, your main concern regarding rims should be durability and performance. The more aggressive you ride, the more durable your rim needs to be. If they look good too, that’s just a bonus. There are lots of inexpensive rims on the market, but as I and so many people have found out, they are usually worse than the stock rims and just waste your time and money.  A thing to consider: two sets of cheap rims cost more than one set of good ones.

Excel rims are legendary for their strength and durability. The new A60 rims are a perfect example of a product that sets the bar high for others to follow. I tend to be a rim wrecker; bending, breaking, denting, etc.  So when the Excel A60 rims showed up I was pretty excited to test them. Many of the aftermarket rims are made in China these days and from my experience they are usually softer than the stock rims.  The Excel A60 rims are made in Japan and are easily the strongest rims I have ever used. The A60 rims are 15% structurally stronger than current Excel Takasago Signature Series Rims.  One reason these rims are so tough is because Excel uses series 7000 aluminum, which is alloyed with zinc and can be hardened to the highest strength of any aluminum alloy.

I ran one set of Excel A60 rims on my KX250 Arenacross bike all winter with zero problems.  At the very first round I ran the stock rims and they looked more like a stop sign at the end of the day rather than a round wheel.  The A60s don't have a single dent in them after six rounds and nearly 70 motos.  I have been doing some off road rides on them too with no problems. The rims are still like new and I continue to run them.

Like Excel says, the new V-curve profile helps keep mud from sticking on the rims, which in turn keeps the bike lighter. Out of habit, I still like to coat them with WD40 if it’s going to be muddy, just to make sure the heavy mud doesn't go for a ride.  With the V-curve profile being a semi-shoulderless rim it also reduces the chances of your rims catching on things.

I can’t tell you how many rims I have spoked up over the years where the spoke angle is a little out of line (which causes them to break) or the spokes are not quite the right length.  The A60 rim and spokes went together as easily as any rims I have done.  Everything lined up perfectly.  Depending on the make and model of your bike it’s possible to reuse your stock spokes, but I prefer using Excel’s Pro Series Spokes with Spline-Drive nipples.  The giant oversized spline drive nipples are forged aluminum and super easy to adjust and they stay tight.  The fluted design of these nipples keep them from rounding off too, you just need the proper spoke tool, which come with the spokes.  I usually grease the threads on the nipples when spoking the wheels, just to make sure they don’t seize over time. When ordering spokes you use the same spoke part numbers as the standard Excel rim.  If you're not sure, Excel also has a rim and spoke application chart on their website www.RKExcelAmerica.com or give them a call. The rims can be laced to stock hubs, Excel Pro Series Hubs and certain aftermarket hubs.

These rims look incredible; they are one of the best looking rims on the market. The Excel A60 rims have a high quality factory look that noticeably stands out from stock rims.  Being black anodized these rims look sharp with their silver metallic pin stripe feature.  After several months of indoor and outdoor motos the silver stripe hasn't worn off and the anodizing hasn't faded, except for maybe a little on the edge of the rim from the tire flexing, more notably on the rear. Some people don't like all black, but you can brighten the wheels up using colored hubs.

Excel continues to lead by example and has brought the quality of aluminum rims up to an even higher level. The new Excel A60 rims offer the factory quality, performance and look that professional and aggressive riders look for. You'll have a stronger more reliable ride and look good doing it.

"After a season of arenacross and many off road rides, the Excel A60 rims look incredible - they are round, no dents and the pin striping still looks great. The last photo below is what my rims usually look like. "
