  • Only a couple of minutes to install.
  • A wise and inexpensive mod.
Endo
  • Can be a little vulnerable to breaking off, especially when forks are off the bike.
  • Sometimes a little oil can spit out and dust might collect.

What it is

Motion Pro has a redesigned fork bleeder. It is a new smaller lower profile design that is only 11mm high when installed.  It is made from a stainless steel body that is stronger and resists corrosion. The kit comes with two bleeders and is available for most late model Showa, KYB and WP forks. They have blue or black caps and some have orange anodizing for KTMs.

How it works

  • Minutes to install.
  • Takes seconds to use.
  • Makes bleeding air from the forks simple.

In use the bleeder is very simple. With a push on the top of it, it allows air pressure to be released from the fork. No tools, no hassle. Instillation takes just a few minutes with a large flat-bladed screwdriver and provided there are no obstructions near the bleeder it is simple. On some instances the forks must be rotated to allow the raised profile of the bleeder clear the handlebar, but usually there is a clear position for it. On some extremely cluttered bar setups with wrap-around handguards, extra wires, headlights, fitting can be difficult, but that is out of the ordinary.

Air pressure can build (or decrease) in the forks from temperature and altitude changes. The air pressure has a direct relation to the performance of the fork. On most conventional spring forks, zero air pressure with the forks fully extended is the baseline setting. Air buildup can cause the forks to act harsh. A simple press on the bleeder before your ride can cure this. Additionally Motion Pro even recommends bleeding off the air when you are transporting your bike by with compressed forks to make life on your fork seals easier.

To take it even one step further, we were using the bleeders on the new KTM WP 4CS forks where we would actually bleed off some air with the forks compressed to create a negative air pressure in the fork to aid in softening the fork’s feel. The MP Bleeder made this simple.

They are a lot more vulnerable to damage then the recessed screw they typically replace, especially when the forks are removed off the bike. The smallish thread going into the fork is no match for a hit of any kind. But on the bike they are in a pretty protected area and the new smaller size is welcome.

Overall this is one small upgrade that saves time and makes doing something that should be done before every ride much easier. Meaning you will bleed the air from the forks like you should because it is so easy. Picky riders especially love them as this eliminates a variable (air in the forks) for an ill handling bike. And the cost is minimal for a good quality part. Every bike should have these installed.
