What it is

  • Real front disc rotor protection in aluminum.

A one piece 6061 Billet Aluminum front brake rotor guard. This prevents the front disk from getting bent or broken after an impact on any trail hazard. It attaches to the axle and additionally to the lower caliper mount.

How it works

  • Above and beyond protection for those that put their front disc rotor where they shouldn't.
  • Easy bolt on.
  • Does not interfere with axle removal.

This guard is beefy, with just one look at this thing you can tell that it means business. It comes in standard in unfinished aluminum but for five bucks more you can get it in anodized black, blue or orange. Install is easy, taking less than five minutes using regular tools, it bolts right on. Before install, be sure to remove the rebound adjustment plug or you will not be able to access it on the trail.

For the normal trail rider, front disk damage is not too common, but it does happen. For myself, this seems to be a reoccurring problem, so it needed to be addressed. I first looked at a plastic disk guard, which did not offer this level of protection from bending the rotor. Also the majority of them covered the front axle nut which makes quick front wheel changes a hassle in racing conditions. The ease of wheel removal made the Bullet Proof Designs guard an easy choice for both racing and trail riding.

After a few hundred miles of snow, mud, and rocks the guard is working flawlessly. Considering the number of scratches and dings throughout the guard and especially on the leading edge, it was a smart purchase. For most, a guard this heavy duty may be slightly overkill, especially with the relatively high price tag, yet it wouldn't take but a couple rotors to offset the cost. Although for the extreme rider / racer this may be cheap insurance against the elements. It may possibly be the difference of going the distance or having a long, bad day out on the trail.
