Trail Tech Voyager GPS–Jimmy Lewis

The Voyager is plain and simple a trail finding and logging GPS that is 100% specific to off-road motorcycling. It’s features are focused to a dirt biker’s needs with a lot of handy stuff and can be considered limited when compared to other multi-use GPS units. The biggest advantage the Voyager has is its simple-to-use functionality while riding with easy to see information that can be quickly accessed on the go.

While many will miss the fact that pre-loaded maps are not part of the Voyager’s database, you can easily import, at least with a PC, any track logs you may want to follow through Trail Tech’s easy to use Ride Leader software and use that as your “base map.” I find it makes following the proper track easier and less confusing because you know what you’ve already loaded in the GPS and have done your pre-exploring homework. In reality a small GPS screen is not the best place to be searching out a new route, I prefer large format paper maps for that. For simply following a track log, there isn’t anything better. Considering we got close to 100 racers to use the Voyager and be able to follow a course in the desert at The King Of The Motos without much marking and very little instruction shows how well it works.

Recording your rides comes with some added information like the engine temperature. Having the gauge show you RPM is great for testing and learning about your bike and how you ride it. I’ve used the voltage reading to diagnose electrical problems on the bike as well.

In the end the Voyager does everything I need it to and it isn’t bogged down with stuff I’ll never use. And trust me, the billet case is a wise investment!
