EVS Axis Sport Knee Braces–Jimmy Lewis

I’ve been wearing knee braces since the CTI advertisement in MXA scared almost every dirt bike rider to consider a knee brace. And after some semi-minor knee injuries and through the help of insurance I was able to get some CTIs back in the day at the cost of well over $1500 a brace. I’ve worn just about every brand since then and was really impressed with the EVS Sport’s price and performance. It has, in my opinion, a knee cover that is top rate and in reality finally does as good of a job in protecting the knee from frontal hits, something that was missing or lacking in most older knee braces I have been using.

I never really “used” the Sport that I remember but that is a good thing. But to test some stuff I twisted and extended my knee in the brace to see how it did and it passes all my “testing tests.” It holds the knee from twisting as good as any brace that does not attach to the boot, most knee injuries are from twisting and in reality braces have a really hard time in preventing these. Strength from side impacts and heavy forces, what may be called catastrophic, seemed to be pretty good but if compared to all carbon type-braces I could see where the plastic attachment parts may give in a little sooner, but my analysis was not scientific in any way. I feel it was practical. The main body of the brace, straps and the hinges all seemed very strong.

The best part of the brace–in riding I hardly noticed it. When forced to think about it I would agree it is slightly wider than some but that is the only area I’d even begin to complain. And for the price I don’t feel any rider who in concerned about protecting his or her knees should hesitate to own these.
