I’ve been really looking forward to riding the new Oil Injected Beta 300RR and once I got the opportunity to ride one I was more than satisfied with it. Being that the majority of the 2 strokes I’ve ever ridden have been KTM’s that is the first go-to as a comparison and it stood up for sure. The power actually hit a bit smoother and linear making it very predictable and very easy to go fast on. The oil injection is a cool addition and makes for a perfect mixture, but to me it’s one of those things that is cool but not necessary.
Either way the bike is a ripper. I was able to lug it around at slow speeds and really quickly get back up to the top when I wanted to jump a little ditch or get back on top of the power band. Going for top speed it kept surprising me that it had another gear! It would definitely hold its own across a long valley against the rest of the open class in a desert race while still being able to motor along very quickly through the trees and single tracks.
As an off-road race bike it is set up with all the cool stuff that you want. Headlight and stator, electric start and kick starter, skid plate, FMF Silencer and Pipe, dash board AND it even comes with a skid plate! The bike is basically the premium version of any other off-road machine with all the bling straight from the shop floor.
My favorite part about the bike was how good the suspension was in stock form. For me the front end never deflected, soaked up all the big hits and was still nice all the way through the stroke. It soaked up the small bumps and the huge hits just as well. It made turning and railing through the washes very easy never wanting to knife in the sand. All in all it felt sprung perfectly for my skill and weight.
The Beta 300RR was super comfortable from the get go and I would be adapted enough to go race pace in no time. I would definitely trust that the machine would keep up and have much more power than I would ever need left over! On top of that it looks really exotic which is always cool.
