2015 Husqvarna 350 FE–Chris Barrett

The 350 power plant wasn’t always a favorite of mine. I would usually prefer a little more power, a little more torque and would take the added weight to get that. However, it has been a while since I’ve ridden a 350 and after putting some time in on the latest Husky FE350, I’m beginning to change my mind.
The first thing I look for in an off-road bike is how low the motor chugs without stalling – this is a make it or break it for me, even with an electric start. Well the FE350 chugs way down without threatening to flame out and the motor has plenty of torque down low. The delivery is smooth and gets traction to the ground, but it still has a quick lively rev and barks when you crack the throttle. As you get higher up in the revs, the bike pulls even harder. The motor runs strong and at no time on our rides was I wishing for more power.
As for the weight, this bike feels light. It’s easy to throw around and has great balance when flopping the bike side to side. This gives it a nice flow when carving the trails and is also a benefit in less than stellar situations. Pivot turns are a breeze and the bike stays balanced whether it’s perched on the rear wheel or standing on the front wheel.
The suspension works well, it soaks up the small chop and rocks and still has decent hold up on the harder hits. It doesn’t do anything outstanding, but it works, even at my weight.
The overall fit and finish of the FE is nice. I did catch my pants on the back of the left number plate when maneuvering around in a tight canyon, but that was with the bike straight up and down in a weird position. The clutch has that nice smooth hydraulic pull and I like the easy adjustment of the levers. The brakes are strong with plenty of power and control, and you have to love that e-start.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by the FE350. It’s fun to ride and has a nice flow with enough power to keep you smiling.
