Everyone has that bike that they can just jump on and ride. No adjustments, no tweaking, just get on and go. Yamaha’s YZ125 was always that bike for me, but there might be a new candidate with the ’14 YZ250F. From the moment I got on the new 250F, I felt at home. From chassis to suspension to motor, I never felt the need to change anything. I tried some clicker adjustments just to see, but ended up going right back to stock. The bike is planted and stable, yet corners amazingly. It’s comfortable to ride and still doesn’t do anything weird when you push it. Yamaha found a great balance between performance and comfort with this machine. I’m a bigger guy, flirting with the 200 mark, and usually when I ride 250s I expect to swing a little wider in the corners and carry more speed for jumps right out of turns. Not so much on the new YZ250F. The motor is very strong and doesn’t feel like a stock 250F. It pulls me right out of corners and then revs to the moon. Whether short shifting or revving, it never felt like I was in the wrong gear which is quite impressive for a stock 250F. Yamaha put together a solid package in the ’14 YZ250F. With a very strong motor and a great chassis/suspension combo, this is the bike to beat in the 250 class.
