First Look: 2027 Triumph TF 250-X

Fresh off an FIM MX2 Manufacturers’ World Championship title, a World Championship victory with Guillem Farrés, and a second-place series finish from Camden McLellan, Triumph isn’t resting on its laurels. For 2027, the British manufacturer has rolled out a series of race-refined updates to its flagship TF 250-X quarter-liter motocross weapon, dialing in power delivery, chassis feedback, durability, and suspension usability. This is all likely based on the winning setup that the MX2 team used to win the world title as they have been racing on a “works” chassis this year en-route to a 1-2 finish in the MXGP World Championship.

What’s New for 2027

  • Engine Tuning: Revised engine mapping refines low-end throttle response, torque delivery, and overall rideability without sacrificing top-end power.
  • Drivetrain & Powertrain Durability: Updated transmission hardware—including a redesigned selector drum and detent wheel—delivers a slicker, more precise shift feel under load. New valve guides improve head durability, while an updated clutch pack, bearing, and plates refine lever feel and durability during high-load race starts.
  • Chassis & Triple Clamps: All-new Neken 7075-T6 forged/machined aluminum triple clamps feature targeted flex tuning for sharper turn-in and improved front-wheel feel through chatter. A revised chain guide is also fitted.
  • KYB Suspension Upgrades: Upgraded front and rear settings improve balance, bump absorption, and feedback. Trackside tuning gets much easier thanks to new toolless adjusters.
  • Ergonomic & Switchgear Updates: Controls get a refresh with a new separate stop/start switch layout alongside an updated mapping button.
  • Fresh Aesthetic: Dark, aggressive new all-black bodywork paired with updated graphics and redesigned fork guards gives the 2027 model a distinct factory look.

Engine & Electronics

The TF 250-X retains its title as the horsepower leader in the 250cc 4-stroke class, producing a claimed 47.4 HP at 13,500 rpm and 21.1 lb-ft of torque at 9,000 rpm.

The high-revving, low-inertia engine relies on high-end internal components: a forged aluminum piston, titanium valves, DLC low-friction coatings, and lightweight magnesium engine covers. Fueling and management are handled by a 44mm Dell’Orto throttle body, a Keihin single injector, and an Athena ECU featuring GET Power Assist. Airflow is fed via a high-flow airbox housing a Twin Air filter with tool-free access.

Electronics remain top-tier for a stock platform. Coming standard are:

  • Handlebar-selectable Dual Engine Maps (Full Power and Softened).
  • Traction Control and Launch Control.
  • Quickshifter for full-throttle upshifts.
  • Optional MX Tune Pro app compatibility via a Wi-Fi module, opening up 10 additional customizable engine maps for trackside tuning.

Chassis, Suspension, & Components

Triumph’s lightened aluminum spine frame with twin cradles returns, featuring internal machining designed for precise flex characteristics under heavy braking and dynamic cornering loads. Paired with a hydroformed swingarm and forged-machined linkage, the layout prioritizes mass centralization and high-speed tracking.

Suspension duties are handled by proven 48mm KYB Air-Oil Separation (AOS) coil-spring forks offering 12.2 inches (310 mm) of travel, paired with a three-way adjustable KYB piggyback rear shock with 12.0 inches (305 mm) of travel.

Rounding out the rolling chassis are high-spec components:

  • Brakes: Brembo twin-piston caliper with a 260mm Galfer disc up front; Brembo single-piston caliper with a 220mm Galfer disc in the rear.
  • Wheels & Tires: D.I.D DirtStar 7000-series rims wrapped in Pirelli MX32 Mid-Soft tires (80/100-21 front, 100/90-19 rear).
  • Cockpit: ProTaper ACF carbon-core handlebars paired with ODI lock-on grips.
