As the race weekend approaches us, we continue to get more organized and prepared for the race. After figuring out the lighting problems we faced in our first update, we received our race bike: a 2017 Yamaha YZ250FX.
We will be completing a race test for this bike following the race to see what it takes to make it a true race bike even though it is very much capable of being raced in stock form. Once the bike was in our possession, it was time to go the extra mile when race prepping it. Before the first ride, we decided it was best to grease the linkage to prevent any sort of mechanical problem like a seized bearing from happening.
In a race like the 24 Hours of Glen Helen where it is very time and cost consuming to participate, doing everything you can to ensure you finish the race is a top priority. Performing a task like greasing the linkage isn’t too difficult and it doesn’t cost anything other than time.
Additionally, we are getting a few sponsors on board with the program who are donating product for the team to utilize. Maxxis tires is giving us some Maxxcross SI tires front and rear for the race which having multiple sets of tires is very important in this race. Last year, we went through 2 front tires and 6 rear tires over the span of the race. Also, Megla Designs will be providing our graphics again this year after doing a great job last year. Likewise, after utilizing and liking them last year, Fasst Company will be providing some Flexx Handlebars to keep us as fresh as possible throughout the long, brutal race. Lastly, we’ll be utilizing IMS’s 2.5 gallon tank with a dry break to keep our time in the pits to a minimum and allow us to race a little longer before refueling. We will be doing some testing with the team this weekend at Glen Helen to let everyone get used to the bike, tune the suspension and EFI, and possibly do some more light testing.
Stay tuned as we continue to provide more updates as the race weekend approaches!
